Train from Frankfurt Main to Erfurt

We shall be arriving in Frankfurt (Main) from Australia in October and would like to know if we can catch connecting train from the airport to Erfurt. Since we are arriving in the evening, would like to find a budget place to stay the night and leave early in the morning to catch the train. As we have never been to Frankfurt before, we don%26#39;t know the area and would appreciate any advice any one can give to the following:

1) Hotels in/near airport are expensive (even for 1 star rating) - any suggestion where we can get a decent night sleep without having to spend too much.

2) Do we have to book train tkt beforehand to go to Erfurt?

3) Am quite confused, it seemed that the train station for regional travel is near the airport - is that right? If so, how far away from the airport is it?

Any early replies will be appreciated - since some of the booking sites already do not have any accommodation near the airport.

1) October? When exactly. If it%26#39;s during the bookfair you won%26#39;t find a cheap place in/near Frankfurt. Better to proceed to Erfurt or e.g. Fulda (i.e. far enough from Frankfurt for decent prices).

Otherwise there are plenty of hotels next to the main railway station.

2) You can buy on spot. If you want a cheap special you have to buy in advance (earliest 89 days before travel day)

Thanks so much for early reply. Will be arriving Frankfurt October 17, 2008 - departing October 18. Is this during the book fair? Since I have never travelled that far before - do not know if I can handle the time zones to go straight to Erfurt. Do you know of any decent hotels in the E60-100 range for a double? May be I am hoping too much - what would one be expected to pay for a budget hotel?

Yes.

Depends on the person. Jetlag is more of a problem when flying in the opposite direction. Something else if you want to drive by your own.
