Fussen for my 30th Birthday

The area of Fussen and the castles looks so beautiful. I am thinking of going here for 3 days with my partner to celebrate my 30th birthday in August.

I am just wondering 2 things.

How easy is it to drive from Munich airport down to Fussen? We are more likely to rent a car as my partner has drove in many countries. But is it very difficult to navigate down to Fussen? If so, is the train journey from Munich to Fussen a nice scenic one?

Secondly - would it be better to stay in Fussen or nearer to the castles themselves? I thought Fussen as there looks more to do there in the way of restaurants and bars? Is it wasy to reach the castle area from Fussen?

thanks

Easy drive, just follow the suggestions e.g. of

If you want to go into Munich itself, car is not the best idea.

Medium. Lovely rolling countryside.

True.

You could walk. Or by bicycle. Or go by bus. By car will also work.

Fssen is a really lovely small town.

You may want also to check the program of the Festpielhaus (a musical theatre with 1400 places) in Fssen. August program is however not yet online.

Thank you very much.

I think I will definately stay in Fussen as more choice on a night.

I will definately look into the Festpielhaus.

Why don%26#39;t you treat yourself and stay in the Villa Jaegerhaus in Hohenschwangau which is an excellent small hotel in a former hunting lodge. The close-up views of lit-up by night Neuschwanstein Castle from your bed are wonderful, just get a room on the Neuschwanstein side and not facing only Hohenschwangau Palace which is also lit-up by night. The middle room one floor up facing Neuschwanstein is particularly nice, and the nextdoor room in the NE corner also has views of both places. Click on my name to see my review, and also another reviewer has taken some nice pictures. The restaurant in the associated hotel across the road is excellent and you can see Neuschwanstein while you dine. Hohenschwangau and Fuessen are only a few kilometers apart so that you can easily drive or take a taxi between them.
