Making a train reservation without buying a ticket

Hi, when I looked at the Deutsche Bahn website, the option of online reservation without purchasing a ticket (since I already have a Eurail pass) does not seem to be permitted even though it is in shaded print and maybe theoretically possible. Is this non-availability simply a feature of some routes or online ordering generally? Can you still make reservations without purchasing a ticket at any German station - either at a vending machine or an actual sales counter? Thanks.

Difficult to say without knowing the exact route and travel date.

Generally it%26#39;s possible to reserve seats online for domestic trips inside Germany. Please note that seat reservations are only possible for far distance trains (IC/EC and ICE) or night trains.

I always use railpasses. I%26#39;ll, in general, make a reservation for any rail journey that is more than 2 hours. I make them the day before at a station.

I like to have all the information written down ahead of time and the clerks always appreciate the novelty of a prepared passenger.
