Overnight Layover in Munich...Help!

My girlfriend and I will arrive in Munich at 9pm on a Saturday. Our next flight isn%26#39;t until 3pm the following day. We%26#39;re not sure what to do with our time. We%26#39;ve considered just staying in the airport, but is there anything worth doing that%26#39;s really close to the airport? Otherwise, is the airport generally safe to stay overnight, or what about a cheap lodge close by? Thanks for any recommendations!

I was very often at Munich airport during the night, and I never had any problems. It really is safe. But if I were you I wouldn%26#39;t waste the time in the airport. Just take the train to the center of Munich, get of at Marienplatz and go for a walk around the old part of Munich (this year Munich has its 850th anniversary) and do a little window shopping in the Kaufingerstrasse / Neuhauserstrasse and the crossing streets. Stop at some coffeeshop or restaurant. It%26#39;s worth it, and Munich is even safe at night. But don%26#39;t forget to take the train back to the airport at noon.

The train connects to the city center quickly and cheaply. The airport was built a considerable distance from the center of Munich, so there is very little of interest out there. If you weren%26#39;t arriving so late, I%26#39;d suggest you book a room through the tourist office at the airport. However, there are many websites (I like hotel.de and booking.com) where you can easily book a room for the night. Just be sure and advise them in the comments section of the booking form that you will be arriving after 6pm. Check the hotel websites for prices and then here at Tripadvisor for reviews.

I%26#39;d highly recommend taking the train to central Munich. There is one hotel connected to the airport (can%26#39;t remember the name, but it%26#39;s about 400 euros a night!!). We stayed in another %26quot;airport%26quot; hotel, which was about 15 miles away in the middle of now-where! We couldn%26#39;t even walk to a store to buy drinks.

There are really no airport hotels that are nearby. It is only about a 40 minute train ride to central Munich where there is much to do and you can find a reasonable hotel. You can easily make it back the next day for your 3pm flight.

Hi,

Just an alternative... we stayed in the town of Erding, Germany 2 years ago at the Park Hotel (Best Western). It%26#39;s about 15 or 20 minutes from the airport. The hotel is just a block or 2 from the Erding train station, and the very chariming old town and pedestrian zone of Erding is just 5 minute walk from the hotel. Very convenient. We loved our last night in Germany here and would definitely do it again.

Don%26#39;t stay at the airport! There surely is some place to go and make better use of your time in the Munich area! As stated here - Erding is a charming Bavarian town ( I know - I lived there for two years). Also, Freising is close by. Even Halbergmoos (maybe it%26#39;s spelled Hallbergmoos) is better than sleeping in the airport. It is only 15-20 minutes from the airport. The hotel Park Regent there will pick you up at the airport and take you back the next day.

If you have not been to the City Centre of Munchen before, I would recommend taking the S-8 train from the airport to the Hauptbahnhof or Marieplatz stop @ 9pm that evening. Plenty of places to sit and have a beer or three along Maximillian strasse or other main streets. You can stay at the Hotel Amba or Hotel Senefelder - both about 100 Eur per night, and a block from the Hbf. The S-8 train is just under 45 mins each way...

when does the last train leave for munich central from the airport? how late would bars/restaurants be open on a saturday night?

Hope you don%26#39;t mind, I need to jump on the post as I have a similar situation. We land at Munich at 8 PM and depart the next day at 1 PM. Myself, husband and 2 kids, 5 and 9. I have found a lot of hotels, but few with family rooms. Any suggestions? Maybe cheaper hotels that will guarantee adjoining rooms? Any suggestions would be welcome! Erding sounds great, I would prefer not to go all the way into the city center with two grumpy kids! Thanks!

the last train from the airport to Munich center goes at 01:02 / the first train from Munich center to the airport: 04:02 - in the airport at 04:43

if you like party life you should probably get of the train at Ostbahnhof and go to Friedenstrasse - just bordering the railwaystation

the young people and party lovers are there the whole night at the party ground.

You really would need a hotel for one night, so.

Write to me - I%26#39;ll try to help you so, if you want.
