Best Beer Cities & Breweries?

In the experts%26#39; opinions (you guys), what are your favorite beer cities after Munich, Bamburg and Koln? We%26#39;ve been to these towns within the past year, as well as Nurnberg and Rothenburg, but we have 6 days in Germany next month and we%26#39;re on a mission to drink the best beers in the world (and live to write about it!) Where would you recommend? We are flying into Frankfurt this time. Have considered hitting Heidelberg -- what do you think? Would rather not spend too much time in transit, given the brevity of this trip. As always, thanks and cheers!

no cities, but 3 monasteries

Andechs (near Munich)

kloster-andechs.de/englisch/index.html

Weltenburg (at the Danube Gorge near Regensburg)

- the 2nd oldest brewery on the planet

- the oldest monastery brewery

- the most beautiful located one

Kreuzberg (on top of the Kreuzberg (928m) in the Rh?n)

- the best beer (my opinion)

Heidelberg is not a beer city. They are proud on their Heidelberg Tun, an extremely large wine

West and south of Frankfurt is in first place wine country. While Frankfurt itself is famous for apple wine.

A beer I like in this region is Faust in Miltenberg

Miltenberg is additionally a nice medieval town.

Also a nice monastery brewery nearby

In Gro?heubach, train station is in Kleinheubach opposite of the river Main.

Kleinheubach, Miltenberg can be reached on RMV day tickets from Frankfurt

Miltenberg also on VRN day tickets from Heidelberg

Also nice nearby Amorbach.

Fantastic and thanks! Wish my German translation skills were better as these sites are (rightfully so) in German. I%26#39;m having some trouble locating these places on my map, but will keep trying. Miltenberg looks lovely, from the photos on the website. Is Kreuzberg near Berlin?

thanks again!

Andechs and Weltenburg have their pages also in English.

Kreuzberg is a mountain in the Rh?n

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rh%C3%B6n_Mountains

Kreuzberg itself is in Bavaria, albeit the Rh?n stretches also into Hesse and Thuringia.

Kreuz = cross

berg = mountain

wikipedia.org/wiki/Kreuzberg_%28Rh%C3%B6n%29

It%26#39;s the %26quot;holy mountain%26quot; of the Franconians, the largest Germanic tribe.

Albeit their homepage is in German only, I%26#39;m pretty sure they still know some English. Because until 1994 there lived more Americans in this community than Germans.

(this page is however in English)

Not the best place to reach by public transport. After the withdrawal of the Americans the train line to Wildflecken was closed.

On Saturday or Sunday you can go by public bus up to the Kreuzberg.

There is a must-visit micro brewery just outside Frankfurt: Alt-Oberurseler Brauhaus in Oberursel.
