Can anyone tell me how strenuous the walking tours are? Are some less so that others? 4 of us will be there in June, but 1 has a lung condition. Since the altitude will be lower than we are used to, breathing will already be easier. If the tours are not at a break-neck pace, he thinks he could manage.

I think it would be best to check with the tour companies.
Basically, I think that most guides don%26#39;t run (and if you%26#39;ll ask them to walk a little slower, they would do it).
I would imagine that the best thing would be to take a private walking tour - then you will be able to be sure that the guide complies with your pace (and would take a taxi/rest when necessary); but after that, if you can%26#39;t afford a private tour, I would imagine that the smaller the group is - the larger the chances that the guide would be sensitive and sensible about your needs.
(I am not so sure though which of the four has the smallest groups, especially in June, though I would imagine this wouldn%26#39;t be New Berlin, which always has hoards of 50 or so...)

Thanks Lylou. I will check with the individual walking tours. We will also have our 17 year old grandson with us, so that will be a good time to make sure it will be a tour he will be interested in, ie, anything to do with World War 11.

Any tour in Berlin will have by nature a lot to do with WW II.
a) it was the (political) headquarter of one of the war parties
b) it saw one of the biggest battles of WW II.

I was wondering if anyone out there would be able to share your personal experience with the walking tours? Was the pace comfortable for you? Were there frequent breaks? It%26#39;s always nice to hear from someone who has already been on the tour. Thanks for the additional help.

We took the Berlin Insider Tour- Famous walk- with guide Derrek (from Toronto) We were never walking at a %26quot;breakneck%26quot; speed, and the day did include a lunch break, and frequent stops at all the sights for a detailed explanation by Derrek. Most all the stops you could have a seat to listen if you wanted.
So- no strenuous walking, but it does last most the day. We didn%26#39;t finish until almost 4 pm - but I have to say- one of the best (and most informative) days I have ever spent traveling.
Enjoy

Thanks so much for the first-hand report. We will probably try the 4 hour walk as my husband should be able to handle half day of walking at that altitude.
Thanks again everyone for your input.
