Hi we are spending 5 days in Garmisch-Partenkirchen in july 2008.Do many restaurants have bi-lingual menus i.e.German-English?

Most of them do. You should plan at least one dinner at Gasthaus Fraundorfer... tremendous Bavarian meals with local entertainment - best rouladen I%26#39;ve ever had. Several of the staff and family that run the place are nearly fluent in English.

Another good spot--Ilsi%26#39;s Golden Angel, off the Marianplatz (across the side street from McDonalds). Very god food, bi-lingual menu, and you can eat outside if you like-- very nice on a warm evening.

I think that you would have to work hard to find a restaurant in Garmisch that doesn%26#39;t have english translations on the menu-- it has hosted (and still does) a number of major US Army facilities over the last 60 years, including a large recreation center, and tourism has been it%26#39;s lifeblood for a century. Nearby Oberammergau is much the same-- there is a large NATO training facility just outside town. Neuschwanstein, Herrenchiemsee and the Linderhof have numerous english tours, usually more than 1 per hour. In fact, most of Bavaria and the Alps, save for a few small, remote towns, easily accomodate english speakers.

many thanks for the information.

Hello Enbee,

We stayed in the Garmisch area for a week last summer and it was the highlight of our 25 day, six country tour.

And you will find most restaurants have bi-lingual menus.

But by far, the top restaurant is Cafe Mukkefuck (not joking). Not only was the food made using the freshest ingredients, the portions were huge and the prices were very inexpensives than 10 euros. Incredible salads, sandwiches, and even good steaks. Can you tell we ate there a few times?

We also ate at Gasthof Fraundorfer...and it was good food. The entertainment was the attraction.

Reindl%26#39;s was also very good but expensive.

Have a great stay in Garmisch!

There are also some excellent Indian restaurants in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. At least two are owned by the same family, though one serves pork and the other doesn%26#39;t. If you get tired of German food, you can%26#39;t fail with the Indian food.

I absolutely agree with the first recommendation for the German restaurant. it was outstanding, but my choice:

La Mamma Ristorante Pizzeria. It was outstanding! The two of us for lunch was only 22EUR. A steal for the quality and the amount of food received. We both ordered the pasta, but wanted to go back for the pizza.
