Cuckoo Clocks......help!

My wife and I will be traveling throughout Europe, via a rental car, in the month of march. Most of our trip is planned out already with a few loose ends here and there...

With that being said, does anyone know of maybe a factory tour or something where we could check out the infamous %26quot;black forest cuckoo clocks?%26quot; We are staying 1 night in Freiburg after we stay in Stuttgart, but before we head towards Zurich. This has not been an easy thing to find. Once I found a site that showed a little store in freiburg that had all sizes for sale, but cannot find the site since.

You will find the cuckoo clocks in Triberg. Looking through my archives I found a small video clip which I shot last year showing the clock work of the %26quot;world%26#39;s largest cuckoo clock%26quot; I just now up-loaded to my site. Have a look if you are interested. You can find more information on this link:

Very helpful website, Thank you much!! I was kind of wondering if there was a place to go that wasn%26#39;t so touristy. As much as I love to travel, I%26#39;m not crazy about being into all the touristy hub-bub. Plus, stuff tends to be a little less expensive a little off the beaten path.

I stopped there by pure coincidence on my way from Schaffhausen to home thanks to the wisdom of my car%26#39;s navigation unit who choose the shortest way. It was in early April and not a soul in sight, shop and museum totally empty except me and the keeper. They had all sizes/prices of clocks I remember. Do some google search on the subject %26quot;black forest cuckoo clocks%26quot; for alternatives.

Very picturesque drive, too. Write to them %26amp; tell them the Hummels in Hillsboro, Oregon sent you.

Enjoy!

Great trip.......we%26#39;re going in September. You will want to return again.

For Cuckoo clocks in Stuttgart, you can look at Karstadt, on the ground floor of this department store on Koenigstrasse. This is the regular Karstadt, and not Karstadt Sport which is closer to the train station. They certainly are not cheap!!!!!

I agree that Triberg is the best place. We wanted to avoid the big mass clock stores ie (house of 1000 clocks) in the area. We found a little family owned shop where you can buy one on display or as we did, have a custom clock built on your own ideas. We were able to choose the: roof style, look of the weights, the figurines, the music it played, the winding time (daily/weekly) and we told him what we wanted on the outside. We even got a tour of the workshop and met his father-in-law carving a clock face. He made it for us and shipped it over a couple of months later. The cost I believe was about $350-400. If you are going to buy one, buy a good one that will last and that you can keep for years to come. He spoke very good english and takes credit cards. Enjoy He is just up the main road from Triburg, make a right at the fork at the top of the town if I remeber correctly. A small house type building.

Robert Herr, Triberger Strasse #38, Schonach, phone 07722 5274.

I have also talked with the owner of Fehrenbach clocks in Schonach I have not seen his shop, but my conversation with him would lead me to believe that he would also have a small shop to get a local made clock. Schillerstrasse 24 in Schnach

I know that there is a good clock museum in the area that has lots of examples of unque clocks. I went to see the largest cuckoo clock and got laughed at by my wife for it. I will say that it is not all that is cracked up to be, time better spent at that musuem imho.
