Train travel in Bavaria

I am flying into Munich and hoping to travel around Bavaria for about 4 days, by train. Could anyone please advise me of the cheapest way to do this? I do not want to use an Inter Rail ticket. My plan is to stay at a different location each night, but perhaps travel a little during the day. I have looked at the Bavarian ticket, but was hoping to have something similar for more days.

It is often hard to beat the Bayern-Ticket Single at 19 Euros per day (21 euros at the ticket counter). Sometimes you may find a normal single ticket cheaper on regional trains; e.g., Wrzburg to Rothenburg is about 11 euros, and Munich to Landshut is about 13 euros. See:

Change %26quot;Means of transport%26quot; to %26quot;only local transport%26quot;.

In some cases this Die Bahn site give you the route but not the price if the train belongs to a local network. You can always ask at the ticket counter. For example Rothenburg ob der Tauber is on the Nrnberg network and a ticket between the two cities is only 8.60 euros.

You might price out a tentative plan and ask specific questions. Sometimes the Bayern-Ticket will not be the cheapest as I have indicated. Ticket counter personnel were generally helpful to us when we asked.

Regards, Gary

Each of the federal states have their won L?nder Tickets which you can easily buy from a machine on the day(s) you need to travel. They are however, restricted to the regional trains but the price is hard to beat.

For nationwide travel you could buy a German Rail Pass. A 4-day 2nd class Youth Pass costs 139 [34,75 /day].
