I have discovered that I can save a huge drop off fee by leaving one rental car in Colmar, and picking up another in Friedburg. I assume there will be a local train to take across the border. Is there anyone who knows for sure? We will be attempting a pickup around three in the afternoon, on a Tuesday in June. The rental car is supposed to be close to the train station. Thank you.

The railway bridge over the Rhine on this route was destroyed in WWII and never rebuilt.
There is however a bus line between Colmar and Breisach and from there by train. Single ticket adult is EUR 7,50.
