rail pass vs. individual tickets

I am staying in Frankfurt for a week and am looking into a Germany Rail Pass so that I can use the trains to visit other cities in Germany. I am a little confused as to how the trains work. The rail pass says unlimited train travel for a certain number of days, but then the fine print says you have to pay extra for reservations? How much are the reservations? And do I need to pay every time I get on a train? Would it be cheaper to buy individual train tickets?

I%26#39;m also looking into taking the train to Fussen so I can see Neuschwanstein. Is this possible using a rail pass?

%26gt; How much are the reservations?

EUR 4,00 per train (incl. one change of trains).

a) reservations are not compulsory. With a rail pass you can just hop on and off any train.

c) you can only reserve seats with EC/IC or ICE trains. But not with regional trains.

%26gt; And do I need to pay every time I get on a train?

No. Reservations make sense for longer trips esp. during peak times (e.g. Friday and Sunday afternoon and evenings).

%26gt; Would it be cheaper to buy individual train tickets?

Depends on your itinerary.

Of course you can reach Fssen on a rail pass. Like any other railway station in Germany.
