car rental pick-up away from airport

I have a good price on a rental car with Gemut if I pick up in Ismaning istead of at the airport. It will save me about $125.00. Is Ismaning close to the airport and is it then easy to get on main road going to Bertchesgaden. It doesn%26#39;t bother us except when we are tired and totally jet-lagged.

Thanks,

Theresa

Take the S8 line to Ismaning - 3rd stop from the airport. Maybe 10-15 minutes.

I suggest going to ViaMichelin and %26quot;constuct%26quot; a map both from the S-Bahn station to the address of the rental agency, and from the agency to Berchtesgaden.

I see you%26#39;re from the U.S. - so you will arrive in Munich directly from the States, more-or-less? If so, then the rest depends on your age and your ability to deal with a new and probably stressful situation when sleep-deprived.

Berchtesgaden is about 90+ minutes from Munich. However, you do drive most of the way by Autobahn, but then you have to get off and use local roads. A consideration is, naturally, what time of day you will be driving.

You might want to consider spending the night around the airport before starting out for B%26#39;gaden.

apecs99 makes a good point. Tee drive to Berchtesgaden, on a nice day, can be very scenic going on the Alpenstrasse (alpine highway) route. But you DO want to be awake to appreciate the drive.

Sorry, %26quot;constuct%26quot; should have been construct.

Yes, the 19% up-price for picking up at the airport is a deal breaker as far as I am concerned.

When is your trip?

bamagal - how many times are you going to ask the same question?? There are now three here....just curious.

You need not arrive in Germany with no sleep. After boarding the plane just immediately go to sleep and refuse all meals and entertainment. It might not be easy to sleep, but it%26#39;s possible to be somewhat rested when you land in Europe. This is what I now do on all eastward trans-Atlantic flights.
