We are heading to Garmisch the week of Feb 18th with our two children, 13 and 10 years old. We plan to ski for 3-4 days, depending on weather, and tour the other 2-3 days. We%26#39;d like to visit one of the nearby castles, and wonder what other sights or activities we should see that would interest both the children and us...and would love some ideas. We%26#39;ll have a rental car, and we%26#39;re adventurous travelers.
Also, we%26#39;d like some good local restaurant recommendations, too. Thanks for any tips you might pass along.

The town of Mittenwald is very near Garmisch, and lovely. In addition to Neuschwanstein, I%26#39;d recommend the castle on an island in Chiemsee. You might also enjoy the salt mine tour near Berchtesgaden. There%26#39;s an interesting big castle in Salzburg, but we haven%26#39;t toured it yet.
