what type of car to rent

We will be in Freiburg then drive to Salzburg and then to Vienna what type of car would be best? There will be three of us.

What kind do you want and are you three adults or 2 plus one child? Luggage? Many of the auto rental websites will give you pictures and descriptions of what cars exist in each category-- otherwise run a %26quot;what if%26quot; on different car categories on a website and they will tell you %26quot;Audi A3 or similar%26quot; or %26quot;Ford Mondeo%26quot;, etc. You can google the car model to get a better idea.

Almost all rental cars in Germany are air conditioned. Automatic transmissions are available but will greatly increase the cost over manual. If you are renting in Germany and dropping off in Vienna, there will be a large drop off fee, check with the company.

In general-- if you get an Opel: Corsa is small, Astra is about the size of a Corolla, the Vectra about the size of an Accord, Omega about the size of a Camry/Malibu.

PS-- If you go to http://www.ebctravel.com/carcategories.html

and click on one of the categories, it will give you pictures of the most rented cars in that category. Also, if you can get a diesel-- do it. The european diesels get better mileage, the fuel costs less, and almost every station sells it.

We rented a car for 2 weeks of driving in Germany last Sept. Ours was an Opel that accommodated 4 adults quite well. Went through gemut.com and felt we got a really good rate. Be sure to get a GPS!!!

The only thing that I would be really concerned with is the trunk and room for luggage storage. The trunk can be quite small in many cars so you can either limit your luggage or rent a bigger car if that will be a problem.
