I am going to Berlin next weekend with a group of friends and we are staying in the Mitte area. Could you recommend any good bars and restaurants? Also what are the best day time activities to do.

The museums in Berlin are first rate. My favorites include the Technical museum, the Pergamon and the Altes museum. The Nikolaiviertel has some interesting shops some of the small squares are very pleasant.
For the evenings... check out www.whatsonwhen.com .
Do a search for Germany and then Berlin and up will pop a %26quot;Nightlife%26quot; button. I don%26#39;t know who did the descriptions of the bars and clubs, but you should be able to find some that appeal to your tastes.
Near Mitte is Oranienburgerstrasse (north of the Hackescher Markt S-bahn station) where there is a lively night time crowd and many restaurants. I look for one that is busy, figuring that maybe they know something I don%26#39;t. There is even an Irish pub at the Hackescher Markt station, if you get nostalgic for a pint of Guiness.

For day time activities take in a bit of the city%26#39;s glorious history by either walking to the many sites yourself or taking a walking tour that are extremely informative and fun.
Brewers tours , New Berlin , Insider tours %26amp; Original Berlin walks all run very good and affordable tours covering loads of Berlins recent history.
Take a walk through the many parks or even better hire a bike for the day.
You might wanna check out Berlin%26#39;s neighborhoods/districts and experience the exciting local culture %26amp; street life. To get a sense of what the people are all about. I suggest going to Friedrichshain , Kreuzberg (orianenstrasse , Bergmannstrasse) , Prenzlauerberg (Kastianallee, Kollwitzplatz),Schonenberg %26amp; Charlottenburg are also worth a look. Youll no doubt find some options for going out etc by exploring these places. You could also take one of the alternative berlin tours that focuses on Berlin%26#39;s alternative art culture, street life andthe weird and unusual underground side of the city.
Have fun !!
