Trying to plan a route back to Munich from Austria in September. Which route would be more scenic - through Walchensee, through Tegernsee, or through Prien?
Any recommendations for nice gasthofs along these routes? (65-70E for 2 people)

Depends on where you come from in Austria. If from east of Munich (Salzburg, etc.) Prien would be directly on the way. You can go via Berchtesgaden, Deutsche Alpenstrasse B-305 to Reit im Winkel (very scenic), Grassau, Bernau, Prien, or on the Autobahn A-8, Bernau exit and 10km north to Prien.
Hotels in Prien, at the lake: Hotel Reinhart, Hotel Luitpold am See and, a bit more upscale, Yachthotel Chiemsee. I like them all.
Prien Tourist Info.: Kurverwaltung, FAX 011-49-8051-690540.
The Tegernsee is a bit further off the A-8 Autobahn, closer to Munich, south from the Exit Holzkirchen. It has several hotels in Tegernsee and Rottach-Egern. Haven%26#39;t stayed in any of them, but Rottach-Egern ist very attractive.
Coming to Munich from the South (Innsbruck) the Walchensee (much smaller than either the Chiemsee or Tegernsee) is right on the way, getting off the B-2 (coming from Mittenwald) onto the B-11 at Kruen. Haven%26#39;t been there for ages, so can%26#39;t give you any good recommendations.
