I%26#39;ve found that some US outfits that sell German railpasses offer a rate well below the Euro rate out of Germany or UK. Now I%26#39;m wondering whether all are reputable. Would like to know where fellow Americans bought theres and if there were problems.
Thank You

The rates for these rail passes are fixed in USD for one year in advance.
As these rail passes are only sold to Non-Europeans, and this means esp. North Americans, the price is made for this market. Which means if the USD falls e.g. by 30% in one year, this will be only made up partly by higher prices. But on the same time the railway companies will get also less revenues from the sold rail passes. But if they sell less rail passes due unacceptable high prices they also have less revenues. A low USD is for them on this aspect a loose-loose-situation. But only on this aspect, on others (e.g. energy) they also profit from a low USD.
You can only buy a few types of German Rail Passes in Germany. And this only at less than a dozen stations. It%26#39;s no freely available offer. The resellers of these passes outside of Europe are protected by purpose
- by the fact that only a few of these rail pass products are available in Europe at all (this is not only true for German Rail Passes, but also for Eurail Passes)
- by the fact that the prices in Europe are arbitrarily at least 10-15% higher (at the time the prices are fixed for the next year)
