Hello,
My buddy and I will be traveling to Munich for the first time this coming March. We will be in the City from March 21st (friday) and leaving on March 24th (monday).
We are interested in the dates for Starkbierfest and we know very little about this hoilday. It seems very hard to find information on google and on this board regarding the 2008 dates.
Any recomendations for which beer halls we should attend or any other Munich advice is appreciated. Two 28 year old guys here looking for fun weekend nights. We are staying at the Euro Youth Hostel Munich so I hear that is a good central location.
Thanks so much for any information!

There is also the Germany-wide famous %26quot;Politikerderbleckn%26quot;, where hig-ranking politicians are made fun of while they attend... but that is a coterie, can only be seen on TV.
But if you dont speak German, it may be useless anyway.

BTW I might add it is not a public holiday.

Sorry to say you%26#39;ll be too late. The fest starts after carneval ends, which is very early this year. Paulaner Nockerberg (see above), L?wenbr?ukeller
www.loewenbraeukeller.com/en/history.html, Unionbr?u Haidhausen and Augustinerkeller (arnulfstrasse)
usually have some party going on, but they%26#39;ll start mid-february to beginning of march. easter sunday marks the end of lent (23. march this year), which is also theoretically the end of Starkbiertime. Some places may still serve it or you may still be able to buy it in supermarkets, but it%26#39;s really a seasonal thing. Oh, and as stated above, it%26#39;s NOT a holiday. The abovementioned beer halls are recommended anytime.

Well that is too bad we will miss this as I was really looking forward to it. Thanks very much for the information!

I%26#39;ll be in Munich March 8th. Will the Starkbierfest be going on at this point?
I%26#39;ve followed the links posted in this thread, but I don%26#39;t find too much information about Starkbierfest.
Do I need to make a reservation at a particular hall? Is it expensive? Do you eat and drink, or just drink? Do things start/end at a certain time? Are you expected to stay a long time, or is it reasonable to just have two liters or so, and go?
Sounds like fun any way!
Obviously I don%26#39;t know much about Munich or beer festivals, but I do like to drink beer and have fun.

You%26#39;re in luck, the Starkbierfest will be until March 9th 11pm this year.
Main location: %26quot;Paulaner am Nockherberg%26quot;, Hochstrasse 77 (same street the Novotel and Holiday Inn are, but at the other end)

how to get there by public transport: www.nockherberg.com/en/kontakt/kontakt.php#

Thanks for the information. I am very excited to find that I will have the opportunity to go.
I think I will try to go to the Paulaner Nockherberg.
Will I need a reservation?
Do you have any idea what it costs?
Is it most of the day, or are there just certain times? I imagine that with 3000 people, it probably is most of the day.

Their web site says they accept reservations only for groups of 10 or more and recommends to be there by 2pm on a week-end (8th is a Saturday). Any group with a reservation that has not appeared by 2:15pm loses its places, so maybe that%26#39;s why they came up with the 2pm indication. Besides, with space for 3000 people there shouldn%26#39;t be any real problem just for you to squeeze in.
Opening times: 11am-11pm (last beer at 10.30pm)
I%26#39;ve read about an entrance fee of 1 euro, plus an extra 1.50 if you want to check your coat at the entrance. 0.5l of Salvator Starkbier cost 4 euro - although they may oblige you to take a Mass which is 1 liter.
