Opinions please: Bodensee vs Schwangau

A little advice on our itinerary would be much appreciated. We%26#39;re spending two nights in Schwangau, hoping to see the castles (of course), Zugspitze, perhaps Mittenwald, some of the scenery. We%26#39;re trying to decide whether Bodensee is worth a day, or should we use that day and extend our stay in the Schwangau area?

Thanks

Of course it all comes down to wwhether you want to see and experience another area. You certainly can have a good time at the Bodensee for over a week if you want. The loveliest town on the lake is Meersburg which also has Germany%26#39;s oldest castle. The regional tourist office website is www.bodensee-tourismus.com . Another lovely area if you enjoy beautiful Baroque churches, monasteries and palaces is Oberschwaben (Upper Swabia) just to the north of the Bodensee, www.oberschwaben-tourismus.de and the Upper Swabian Baroque Road www.barock-strasse.org .

I wouldn%26#39;t bother to go to Bodensee. There is too much to see in the Schwangau area. Like the previous poster said, there are plenty of churches, monasteries, castles etc. in the area around Fssen.

I completely disagree with eagle! Apart from Neuschwanstein castle Bodensee has so much to offer:

- Meersburg, one of the oldest walled cities in Europe with spectacular view of the lake and the Swiss alps

- Lindau, one of the most beautiful and most charming island cities with almost Venice-like atmosphere

- The building in Konstanz in which the papal council took place from 1414 to 1418

- SeaLive aquarium at Konstanz where you can learn all about the fauna and flora of the Rhine river from it%26#39;s springs in the Swiss alps via its transit thru the lake of Constance all the way to the Netherlands where it splurs into the North Sea.

- The Zeppelin museum at Friedrichshafen where parts of the cabin of the Hindenburg were replicated for you to visit and get a feeling of trans-atlantic travel of those days

- Mt. S?ntis with views from Germany all the way to Italy (on a bright day)

- St. Gallen, Switzerland

- The best of Germany, Austria and Switzerland all withing a 45mins drive%26#39;s reach

- You could even do a day trip to Zurich, Zug, Lucerne

- Daytrip to Rothenburg ob der Tauber and Dinkelsbhl is possible, too (2 hours drive from Lindau)

- Hohenzollern castle, still owned by the family of the last German emperor (Kaiser) which to some is even more exciting than Neuschwanstein as it%26#39;s a genuine castle

- Even a day trip to the Black Forrest is feasible...
