location location location

am heading to munich for 2 nights in a couple of weeks. can anyone recommend a reasonable hotel in around the marienplatz? i am looking for a pretty location, would like a traditional ambience, if poss, near decent restaurants. also, are the 4/5 stars worth it? they seem v expensive. thanks

If you want a reasonable hotel with a good breakfast, run by nice folks, we liked the Hotel Blauer Bock:

It is at Viktaulienmarkt, a block off Marienplatz. The area is loaded with restaurants and Biergartens. The has a German flavor rather less like a modern, chain hotel. It is does not have all the services of 4/5 star hotel but we went wanting for nothing.

Thanks for the tip.Cant stay there as hubby surprised me by booking another hotel Novotel City Munich- citing my lack of organisational skills. ( Unfortunately hes right on that score) still i think this hotel is fairly central. Can anyone recommend a good flea market/antique market in munich? whats the deal with sunday opening. all advices appreciated!

Novotel is o.k. location but not excellent, you%26#39;ll have a bit of awalk across the river.

Best locations are a stones throw from Marienplatz,
