Hi, Any info would really be appreciated. We are a couple with two daughters, aged 13 and 11, and we%26#39;re thing of heading to Oberstdorf in January for five days. We%26#39;ve never been on a ski holiday before. Any about ski schools, equipment and passes? Should we buy ski jackets and pants before we go? We really are greenhorns!
With thanks, Michael

You can rent your skiing equipment at Oberstdorf, there are several places and you even can compare the rates. I%26#39;d definitely buy anything else, i.e. underwear, jackets and pants myself. Try to find them on eBay.
You need two pairs of long skiing underwear (for daily exchange, wear regular briefs underneath), two pairs of skiing socks (for daily exchange), one long sleeves turtleneck shirt for every day (depending on how much your sweating you might be able to wear it two days, especially if you wear a t-shirt underneath), you need skiing pants and a good jacket. Goggles can be rented but bring your own UV-proof sunglasses. Some people prefer skiing with hats and scarfs... up to you... and up to how cold it gets.

We went there last christmas and have never ever skied before, but had an amazing 2 days of lessons and fun. we hired ski%26#39;s and boots, but bought ski jackets ( sort of windbreakers) for 20 euro each in oberstdorf. We didn%26#39;t wear ski goggles. I would definitely buy ski pnts and a jacket before i go if I were you, but rent the equipment there. We bought two days of lessons on the learner slopes ( with toddlers in nappies skiing on one side!!) It was lovely. After two days our calves were aching from the boots, but we had a great time! Our ages ranged form 10 to 44! There are three ski schools available right at the learner slope to choose from, but you have to get your ski%26#39;s etc from town.
