Flying into and out of Friedrichshafen and hiring a car, intend to see as much as possible, also was wanting to camp, is this possible in the cities?

Here%26#39;s a list of sights that are really worthwhile. The list is not complete at all though:
Southern Germany:
- Munich
- Garmisch Patenkirchen and Mt. Zugspitze
- Berchtesgaden
- Lake K?nigsee with St. Bartholomew%26#39;s church
- Freiburg and Black Forrest
- Stuttgart (only if you want to see the Mercedes and or Porsche museum)
- and of course the beautiful Lake Constance area, especially Meersburg, Mainau island, Lindau island, Friedrichshafen (the boardwalk, great view, great coffee places etc. and of course the Zeppelin museum with a replica of the Hindenburg%26#39;s passenger cabin)
Austria:
- Salzburg
- Hallstadt
- Innsbruck
Switzerland:
- Lucerne
- Zug
- Mt. Rigi
There is a local low cost carrier in Friedrichshafen called InterSky (www.intersky.biz). They can take you to Berlin or Vienna or Hamburg, in case you want to squeeze those in your itinerary as well ;-)

By the way there is a great beach club in Friedrichshafen. www.beachclub-fn.eu

The Bodensee (Lake Constance) where Friedrichshafen is has much to offer in itself (www.bodensee-tourismus.com). Meersburg is the loveliest town on the lake and has Germany%26#39;s oldest castle. Just north of the Bodensee is Oberschwaben (Upper Swabia) with its numerous beautiful Baroque churches, monasteries and palaces (www.oberschwaben-tourismus.de and also the Baroque Road www.barockstrasse.org). Another nearby area of Germany is the Swabian Alb (low limestone mountains with numerous castles and caves- www.schwaebischealb.de). Two nice castles on the Alb are Hohenzollern (Hechingen) www.burg-hohenzollern.com and Lichtenstein www.schloss-lichtenstein.de . Tuebingen is a lovely old college town in this area, and nextdoor to it is the well preserved medieval Bebenhausen Monastery (www.schloesser-und-gaerten.de and then select English, and then monasteries. Other places in this website are excellent to visit, especially the castles.). The Danube west of Sigmaringen is idyllic with numerous castles and palaces perched on the cliff tops. Sigmaringen also has an excellent castle/palace (www.hohenzollern.com).
The Swiss Alps begin across the Bodensee. Interlaken, a ways away, is a nice place to stay for the Alps at one of their better places. There are boat excursions on the two lakes and many scenic train rides, and of course you can also do drives.
Salzburg is one of my favorite places in Europe as it is a nice blend of culture with scenery, sitting on the doorstep of the German and Austrian Alps. The ice caves at Werfen are one of the few places I consider a %26quot;must see%26quot;. Werfen also has a nice castle.
You could spend years in the area and have plenty left to see, so no matter how you try, you won%26#39;t be able to see it all. I would try to have a pleasant blend of different types of things, and do some things that are interesting and fun such as a visit to the ice caves. And I would try to stay away from such tourist magnets as Neuschwanstein Castle unless you are into hordes of foreign tourists. The other castles I mentioned are excellent, and won%26#39;t be over run by either German or foreign tourists.

Thank you for your replies. I am so looking forward, and you have given me plenty of pointers for great things to see.
Any ideas on the camping idea?
|||
I know that in Stuttgart it is possible to camp in the city center (www.wanner-gmbh.de www.stuttgart-tourist.de) and it is also possible in many towns around Stuttgart. For Germany in general you can find information about the town and possible campsites by going to www.PLACENAME.de, just substitute the place name you%26#39;re interested in.
|||
As you can never predict the weather in the mountainous areas I would not recommend camping - it would also be a problem in the cities. You will also be able to get very cheap accomodation in hostels or B%26amp;B which is much more convenient.
