Activities to keep 12 yr old interested nr Trier?

Hi

Staying just outside Trier for 12 days in August with car. Can anyone recommend any activities to keep our 12 year old daughter amused. I am sure there will be plenty of walks and cycling which we are really excited about and I believe there is a Roman Festival in Trier but I have heard of a theme park nr Frankfurt, not sure how far that is and an open air swimming pool nearby but again unsure of how near. Are the Rhine %26amp; Moselle river cruises worthwhile? And is their a firework display there in Augsut? Lots of questions but appreciate any advice.

Thanks

The Roman Empire, toll castles, robber barons, global power struggles, the Prussian empire, Gothic cathedrals...what%26#39;s NOT to interest a 12-year-old?

Did you know that Trier is the oldest city in Germany? Take a look at www.trier.de -- there%26#39;s an English site available, and should have plenty of information to help plan.

I lived in the area of Trier until I was 12 years old. I really enjoyed our family outings to the Roman ruins and the shopping in the square. I believe the theme park you are talking about is Holiday Park. There is another north near Koln called Phantasialand. I remember both of them being equally fun. Another fun thing relatively close by would be Berg Eltz. It is probably a few hours drive but well worth it. The town of Wittlich is nearby and has a waterpark. There is also a waterpark in Bitburg which is not that far away. You may also want to take her to Eifelpark. I loved it there as a child. I hope this information helps.
