Am travelling from Australia to Europe in April - doing a lot of stops in 4 weeks and due to the areas we are trying to take in and the fact that we have to be there for specific dates I was hoping to go straight to Bacharach from Frankfurt Airport and spend 3 nights there to get adjusted - We are then going to Baden - Baden, Munich, Salzburg, Vienna, Prague for starters. My question is - Are the areas I have seen mentioned in other forums accessible from Bacharach - Even more to the point are my wife and I going to be bored on the 3rd day waiting to leave?
Any help would be appreciated.

If you were just to stay in any one of the Rhine towns for 3 days, you%26#39;d more than likely be ready to leave - but the point is to get around to the castles, towns, and villages in the area. Trier, Bernkastel, Cochem, Burg Eltz, Marksburg in Braubach, Cologne, the WW II museum at the site of the old bridge in Remagen, cobblestoned and half-timbered Linz and Bacharach - they%26#39;re all wonderful places to visit and would easily usurp your time if you have the energy and access to car or train. I would suggest Boppard over Bacharach as a more centrally-located town for travel in the area and for its greater number of services and better train connections.

Thank you for your help - I will take that on board - the WWII museum sounds very interesting, thanks

Bacharach is a realy great base for the rhine area, because it nearly is located in the middle of the UNESCO heritage %26quot;Oberes Mittelrheintal%26quot;. It s about 40 km to Koblenz and 15 km to Bingen and 40 km to Mainz.
I would be really astounded if you get bored in the Bacharach area. There are at least ten different castles in the nearer area to visit. The %26quot;Rhein-Burgen-Weg%26quot; is an excellent hiking trail and lot s of small vine villages invite for a stay.
The only handicap for all towns and villages that are located directly at the rhine, is the train noise. So be sure your place to stay is not located at the train.
