Options to get from Munich to Salzburg

I am about to spend a few days in Munich and take a day trip to Salzburg. Is it worth going there for just a day trip? What is the best way to get there? We wanted to take the train or take a tour bus. What is the website for the train? The tours we have come across only run on Saturdays and Tuesdays but we would like to go on Sunday or Monday. Does anyone know of a tour that runs on those days during this time of year? Any help is appreciated.

Sunday would be perfect on the Bavaria Ticket. A day ticket covering all regional trains in Bavaria and to/from Salzburg. EUR 27,00 for 2-5 persons together.

On Monday (and any other weekday) this ticket has the restriction of only past 9am. On Sunday you can start as early as you want.

DB timetable

From: Munich

To: Salzburg

and select as means of transport %26quot;only local transport%26quot; if you like to use the Bavaria Ticket.

The Bavaria Ticket covers also the U-Bahn (metro), trams and buses in Munich. The buses in Salzburg are however not covered.

There are lots of threads that cover this, but the train is usually the best way. Inter City trains are more expensive but faster. Local trains are chepare, particularly is you use a Bayern ticket.

Look at www.bahn.de for times and fares

Agree, the train and the Bavaria Ticket is definitely the way to go, particularly on a Sunday.

We did a day trip to Salzburg from Munich last year. Salzburg is a beautiful, compact small city that deserves more than a day trip, as we found out, much to our disappointment. So, if you have the time, give some thought to spending a couple of nights in Salzburg. We loved it so much that we plan to return again this year and spend more time there.

If you do your research on Salzburg you will find out all you need to know, rather than taking a superficial guided tour. The Salzburg forum will give you all the info you will need.

HI- I%26#39;m travelling w/ NatfromATL and the trip will be very short- arriving in MUC on Sat AM and leaving Tues AM. From what we can see, the Bavaria ticket has to be mailed to your home and if so, we are leaving in just a few days and will not have time for that...

Can anyone tell us if the ticket can be purchased in person? And can they be purchased for AFTER 9am on days other than Sunday?

Thank you :)

Also, does anyone know of a tour company who actually operates a tour between Munich and Salzburg on days other than Sat and Tues?

Thanks!

You can buy the Bavaria Ticket on spot from any ticket machine in Munich. At any time.

Thank you so much!!!

Is there a price difference between Sunday and Monday travel?

%26gt;Is there a price difference between Sunday and Monday travel?

No, of course not. Its always 27 Euro. The difference is only in validity before 9.
