Driving through the Rhine Valley

Hello,

A friend and I will be driving through the Rhine Valley in late May, spending about 4 days getting from Munich to Cologne. Can anyone recommend castles or estates that offer hotel accommodations? Also, any tips as far as villages or areas to explore would be greatly appreciated, as this is our first trip to Germany.

Thank you

Starting in Cologne, definitely see the neighboring university town of Bonn.

Along the Rhine, St.Goar might be a good choice. You are close to the world famous Loreley and it has a very nice castle overlooking the Rhine (don%26#39;t know the name). Another nice stop may be Boppard.

I would advise to skip Rdesheim which is catering to the very lowest tourist instincts.

Following the Rhine Valley comes the wine country Rheingau with the gorgeous Schloss Johannisberg (check out the caf) and the town of Eltville. For overnight, stay in Wiesbaden, one of Germany%26#39;s most well-to-do cities and an attractive downtown area.

On your way to Munich you might want to stop in Heidelberg or Regensburg, either one of them is 3 stars in every tourist book, so you can%26#39;t go wrong there. Also the Romantic Road might be a good scenic route to take towards Munich.

Thank you for your thoughts, they%26#39;re very much appreciated

esp. when heading to Fssen it will be more better to use the autobahn A7 for the larger part of this route as you would need otherwise too long
