Best Time of Day to Visit Neuschwanstein?

What is the best time of day to visit Neuschwanstein on a Monday in late June/early July?

I am looking for an optimal time of day based on crowds and any other factors that I have not thought about.

If you buy the timed ticket then you really don%26#39;t need to worry about the crowds at a particular time of day. Just go when your reserved time rolls around.

The best time to visit is when there are the fewest tourists which it will be over run with at that time of year, the first tour of the morning is best because the tourist hordes won%26#39;t all have arrived yet. Consider staying in Hohenschwangau overnight. The Villa Jaegerhaus is a great very small hotel, and you can have close-up views of the lit-up by night castle. Be sure to get a Neuschwanstein view because all rooms have castle views, but some of only also lit-up by night Hohenschwangau. They also have package deals with tickets to the castles included. Click on my name for my review, and another reviewer has also taken some nice pictures. You can then also walk around Neuschwanstein at night or early in the morning for viewing its exterior, and there probably will be very few people around.

If you%26#39;re on a bus tour you have no worries. If you are on your own, you absolutely MUST be there as early as possible. The line-ups are hideous.

Just keep in mind that you have to collect the ordered tickets at least 1 hour before the tour starts.

I do plan on ordering tickets ahead of time, but am checking whether I should book a morning or afternoon tour.

Ideally, I am looking for smaller crowds, but don%26#39;t know the chances since I am going on a Monday in summer.

We went on Friday, June 29 2007 and pre-booked tickets for 12:15 pm. Being ulta-conservative, we arrived at 10:00 am, only to find relatively small crowds, and were able to get our tickets moved up to the 11:00 am (next English tour).

It did get busier later in the morning, but about this time (before 11:00) was perfect. I%26#39;d recommend going to Mary%26#39;s bridge (short hike up from where the bus drops you off) for an amazing view. The bridge gets crowded when the bus drops off, but wait a few minutes when the crowds head down to the castle, and you%26#39;ll have it all to yourself!

driving time

Can anyone tell me how long it takes to drive from Augsburg to Fussen? Also how long does it take to drive from Fussen to Innsbruck and which route is most scenic? Thanks

The drive from Fussen to Innsbruck is just under 2 hours - we drove it last June and it%26#39;s a breathtaking drive, even our kids enjoyed it!

Just cross the border at Reutte, Austria, and follow the highway (#179) that takes you to the autoroute just west of Innsbruck. It%26#39;s a winding road (but nothing like to Sea to Sky highway :), with a few long tunnels.

Stuttgart end of June

Can anyone advise if there are any festivals in Stuttgart or around the area the last week of June? We will be in the area for almost a week and looking for wine, food, cultural festivals to attend.

There are a lot of possibilities for music and plays, too many to name. Other things:

You can find information about many places by going to www.PLACENAME.de . However, this information almost invariably will be in German if it isn%26#39;t for a tourist office.

Thank you for the information. We are there from aprox. 23 - 30th. So there are some options for us from your list. We had planned to use pubic transit but will rent a car for a day or two if needed. The

Lorch Rems Valley party days city festival and Bad Wimpfen Talmarkt- large festival sound interesting as does the Bad Urach festival and Stuttgart long night of gardens, We do not speak any German and have chosen to visit Stuttgart because of its quality of life, great car museums and its culture. We look forward to our visit!

If you go to Lorch, the monastery there is nice but a ways out of town. Some of the Staufer kings who rule extended as far as Sicily were buried there. I believe if you go to www.schloesser-und-gaerten.de , select English and then look at monasteries you will find it. This is an excellent website for the castles, palaces, monasteries and gardens operated by the state of Baden-Wuerttemberg. Besides descriptions of the places there is also their history and anecdotes about them. Bad Wimfen and Bad Urach are also very nice places to visit.

getting to berlin from leipzig in messe

i want to go to berlin and i was wondering if anyone knows what the best way to get there would be using the train...can i use the trainstation that%26#39;s near the nh hotel in messe or do i have to go to the promenade trainstation

Stuttgart to Munich by Train

Hi, We are looking at flying from Split Croatia to Munich. We can fly to Stuttgart then train from there. Is the main train station close to airport.Also what would it cost to train from Stuttgart to Munich. Also any reviews about German Wings would be great.Thanks Di

Hi, there is a train connection (S3) from the airport to the main railway station in Stuttgart. The ride takes about 30 mins. Don%26#39;t know the price of a ticket but it should not be too bad. From Stuttgart to Munich there are generally two trains per hour. The cost of a ticket will vary from 40 to 50 Euro per person depending on the type of train/time of day/etc. Check out http://bahn.hafas.de for train schedules and ticket prices, the site has an English language option. Can%26#39;t help you with German Wings.

I fly GermanWings frequently and always enjoy flying with them. They are a subsidiary of EuroWings which is a subsidiary of Lufthansa. There an excellent airline. As previously mentioned, the S-bahn ride takes about a half hour from the airport to the main train station, and can be purchased as part of your train journey. Besides the local transportation networks ticket machines, there are also ones for the trains one floor down. If you arrive at Terminals 1/2 go right upon exiting the baggage claim for the tourist office. If arriving at Terminals 3/4, turn left after exiting baggage claim for the tourist office. Besides tourist information (get a free map of Stuttgart in the language of your choice which has a 1-3 hour walk to visit the sights in central Stuttgart), they can sell you train tickets where you will be dealing with a person instead of a machine.

For tourist information look at www.stuttgart-tourist.de . The world%26#39;s largest Spring beer festival will be coming soon 12Apr-4May, www.stuttgarter-fruehlingsfest.de .

Train information can be found on www.bahn.de . If you are a small group, it might be cheaper to get both Baden-Wuerttemberg and Bavaria group tickets for 2-5 people for the train trip, which are good for the day with a few restrictions, only regional trains which may be slower, and also no travel before 9AM on weekdays. You can also investigate whether GermanWings participates in a fly and train program to get cheap train tickets.

Schoenfeld Airport to Prenzlauer Berg

Hi,

We are coming to Berlin in a couple of weeks and I have looked at the Airport Express to get from Schoenfeld to Prenzlauer Berg (we are staying at the Aurora Hostel) I was just wondering where we get off in Berlin city and do we need another train to get to the hostel? Can anyone help?

Hi

Try www.bvg.de which is the official Berlin public transport site and has a good journey planner on it.

I think your best bet would be to catch train to Friedrichstrasse and then get a Number 12 tram. The alternative is changing at Alexanderplatz and getting the U-bahn but I think this would give you a longer walk at the other end.
